Connect’s Junior Social Group is open to children who have diverse needs which makes socialising difficult, e.g. Autistic Spectrum Disorder, along with their siblings and families. There is no cost for the activities which are designed together with children. These can include board and computer games, trips, singing etc. The group is supported by Connect’s Toy and Leisure Library with loans to children.
The group runs on alternate Wednesdays 6.00– 8.00pm at The Community base/Shining Light Centre Forest Road, Sutton Manor, St.Helens WA9 4BF
The Youth Asperger’s Group is a group for children and young people aged 11 upwards. Originally the group was for those with Asperger’s Syndrome but we have extended this remit to be more inclusive of other neurodevelopmental conditions in line with St Helens’ Council’s neurodevelopmental pathway.
The group is run by Karen Byrne and youth workers from St Helens Youth Service. We organise activities, games and trips with the aim of strengthening social communication skills in an informal setting. We ask parents to stay whilst the group is running to ease anxiety of the young people who attend. The group is free to join and attend each session but all new members need to complete a membership form.
The group runs on alternate Tuesdays 7.00– 9.00pm at The Perth Centre, Elephant Lane, Thatto Heath, St Helens WA9 5QX
